[AGE30-P02] Predicting climate change impacts on soil environment in plain and mountainous areas of Gifu Prefecture, Japan
Keywords:climate change, soil moisture, soil temperature
Thus, it is necessary to evaluate the effect of climate change on the soil with meteorological data and soil parameters specific to each region. This study aimed to clarify the impact of climate change on the ground environment in plain and mountainous areas of Gifu Prefecture.
The present (2018-2020) and future (2098-2100) soil temperature, soil moisture content, and snow depth were calculated using HYDRUS-1D, a one-dimensional soil heat and mass transfer calculation software, and General Circulation Model (GCM). The HYDRUS-1D was calibrated based on the measured soil moisture content and soil temperature at the two sites.
The simulation results showed that air temperature, solar radiation, precipitation, and rainfall intensity increased due to global warming in both locations. Soil temperature rises throughout the year, but the increase is more significant in summer than winter. The increase in soil temperature is due to the solar radiation increase and the decrease in sensible heat flux. Soil moisture tended to become wetter in summer and drier in winter in the plains. This is because of seasonal rainfall and solar radiation increase. In the mountainous areas, snow cover decreased in winter. The soil moisture fell in summer and increased in winter. This difference is thought to be caused mainly by the effect of snow cover. A comparison between the plains and the mountains shows that global warming is more pronounced in the plains. In summary, this study has revealed the future trend of changes in the soil environment at two sites with different locations and topography. In the future, we will use the same approach to predict future changes in the soil environment at various locations in Gifu Prefecture to understand the impact of global warming.
