Groundwater pollution with arsenic has become a major problem on a global scale, and then the use of Mg-based and Ca-based adsorbents is expected as a method for removing arsenic from arsenic-contaminated water. In particular, magnesium and calcium oxides and hydroxides have been reported as substances having high arsenic adsorption performance. On the other hand, many components other than arsenic such as fluorine are dissolved in groundwater, but normally, if it is below the environmental standard value, it is not necessary to purify fluorine from arsenic-contaminated water. However, even with such a low concentration of fluorine, there is a concern that the arsenic removal performance of the adsorbent may be decreased by fluorine. In this study, the arsenic removal tests were carried out using fluorine-arsenite mixed solution as simulated arsenic-contaminated water and using MgO, Mg(OH)2, CaO and Ca(OH)2 as Mg-based and Ca-based adsorbents, and the effects of low concentration fluorine on their arsenite removal performance were evaluated.
