[AHW25-P02] Novel method for groundwater flux estimation using the new analytical heat transfer solution
Keywords:Groundwater flux, Analytical solution, Thermal dispersion
This study proposes a new one-dimensional heat transfer model and a new method to predict the transient behavior of the groundwater flux. The model considers the thermal dispersion effect which is often ignored in the past studies. The cubic equation and the combination of trigonometric functions are respectively used for the initial condition and upper boundary condition. The sensitivity analysis is performed to explore the parameter effect on the temperature via the present model. The groundwater flux in the existing analytical heat transfer models is often assumed as constant; the estimated groundwater flux from a field observation may be doubtable because it may depend on time. Therefore, we propose a new method to predict the transient behavior of the groundwater flux based on its original estimate. The new method provides the excellent prediction compared to the actual flux used in numerical experiments. Finally, we apply the present solution and existing solution to analyze the temperature profile data from an infiltration experiment conducted at National Taiwan University, Taiwan. The results from our analysis show that the present model significantly improves groundwater flux estimation. Overall, the present solution and method can be handy tools for groundwater flux estimation.
