[AOS21-P04] GO-SHIP Easy Ocean: usage precautions
Keywords:GO-SHIP, ship-based ocean observation, decadal variability
GO-SHIP (Global Ocean Ship-based Hydrographic Investigation Program) succeeds the World Ocean Circulation Experiment Hydrography Program and provides data covering land-to-land, surface-to-bottom ocean sections at a state-of-the-art accurary and precision. The data are archived by cruise, which turns out rather difficult to use. We provide formatted and gridded set of data compiled by section, called GO-SHIP Easy Ocean (https://dx.doi.org/10.7942/GOSHIP-EasyOcean). At the time of writing, temperautre, salinity and dissolved oxygen data are provided. Despite its name, the use of the data set requires some care in several points, e.g., different cruise tracks on different occupations tucked onto one single spatial coordinate, error introduced in gridding. We discuss these points and encourage users to try the data set with awareness of its limits. Use of the data includes a quick look at a "snapshot" of the ocean, comparision with outputs from numerical simulations, investigate decadal changes in subsurface ocean, etc.
