[G02-P03] Seismogram and seismic station at the summer school for kids

1. Introduction
The Seismological Society of Japan, the Volcanological Society of Japan, the Geological Society of Japan hold the seismic, volcanic, and geological summer school for kids with local group. National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED) supports this program since 215. I introduce the local seismic station and seismic waveform observed at the local seismic station. It is good opportunity to deepen local people’s understanding of seismic station and seismic observation.

2. Seismic waveform
I introduce the seismic waveform of Tohoku-oki earthquake on March 11, 2011 and the north Nagano earthquake on November 22, 2014 observed at Hase seismic station of high-sensitivity seismograph network (Hi-net) in Ina city, Nagano prefecture at 16th summer school in 2015. I also introduce the seismic waveform of the Off Kii Peninsula earthquake on April 1st, 2016 onserved at the Kushimoto seismic station of Kyoshin seismic network (K-NET) at the 17th summer school in 2016. We consider it important that the kids find out the answer for themselves. I gave hints for kids and they found out the name of earthquake. They were surprised at the small long oscillation of the Tohoku-oki earthquake and large short oscillation of the near northern Nagano earthquake.

3. Seismic station
I introduce the Hase Hi-net station in Nagano at 16th summer school, the Kushimoto K-NET station in Wakayama at 17th summer school. I showed the data transmission equipment, the cover of well with seismogram at the Hi-net station. I showed the seismogram and data transmission equipment at the K-NET station. Now we cannot show the inside of the almost many of K-NET station since they send the seismic intensity information to Japan Meteorological Agency.

4. Further expansion
Recently local government and the owner of the land at some seismic stations demand to return the site of seismic station because of the land readjustment. The movement of the seismic station produce the gap of seismic stations. We need to teach the importance of seismic observation and seismic station during the summer school. We hope the local people to deepen their understanding of seismic observation and seismic station.
