[G04-06] Interactive communication in the event of the Earth Science Week Japan (ESWJ)
Keywords:Earth Science Week, Outreach
Earth Science Week (ESW) is the event that had started by the America Geoscience Instititute (AGI) in 1998. The Japan Geoscience Union (JpGU) has joined ESW from 1998.The purpose of Earth Science Week Japan (ESWJ) is to encourage the younger generation to study the Earth Science, and the general piblic more aware of earth science.
We have provided activities related to earth science, such as field excursion, lectures, booth exhibitions, and hands on experiment. Also, we also share our activities on the website with the movies.
The significances of ESWJ include the following four matters.
The first is a lecture inviting a leading expert on the subject. This is intended for a wide range of participants, regardless of age, assuming a large-scale venue.
The second is a poster presentation by high school students on the local SSH. It provides a wider learning opportunity for the science talented students, who can watch other exhibits and lectures during the event.
The third is exhibition and/or hands on experiment for parents and children. The aim is to get familiar with the earth science in a casual way.
The fourth is a field excursion. Although outdoor activities are difficult due to the corona disaster and accidental risks, it is one of the best way to get the public to understand the fascination of the Earth Science.
In the presentation, I will introduce ESWJ event to those who are interested in such activities.
