[G05-P09] Reconsidering Sado Island Geopark’s Guide Training Program

Currently, the Sado Island Geopark faces a major problem: the number of certified guides is decreasing. There are two main reasons for the decrease. Firstly, fewer certified guides are able to work due to the aging of the population. Secondly, getting certified as a guide is a time consuming process with many steps. In order to become a guide, citizens must complete a long Intermediate Course and a Guide Training Course.
A new policy has been put in place in order to address the issue. The policy combines the two courses, which usually last around 10 months, into a 6-month guide-training program. The idea is to reduce the burden on those who want to become certified guides. In addition, the course content is designed to provide practical training so that students can start working as guides immediately after certification.
In this presentation, we will share the results of the previous training course as well as the process of developing the new guide training policy.
