Oboke and Koboke gorge is located in a clearly transverse valley of the Yoshino river in central area of Shikoku mountains, and is an uplift region in Sambagawa metamorphic belt (Ohta et al., 2004). Oboke and Koboke gorge is known as a famous investigation area because is observed several geological structures such as the anticline structure of a few kilometers, the axis part of the anticline structure is exposed psammitic schists and conglomerate schists.
This gorge is designate as a nation’s place of scenic beauty and natural monument because geological structures and Yoshino river in this gorge are made original and unique landscape
Before the establishment of Miyoshi geopark project, Oboke and Koboke gorge is known as one of famous tourist attraction due to a raft boat tour and the sightseeing boat that use Yoshino river. Tourism of Oboke and Koboke gorge began by the rout 32 along the Yoshino river was opened in 1894. This gorge began to flourish as tourist attraction since above age.
About 10 sites of Miyoshi geopark project are doted along Oboke and Koboke gorge. Those sites are used as place of the geotours and geoeducations. In Oboke gorge geotour, tour guides conduct about geology and local history explanation along the Oboke gorge. As one of geoeducation, 5 special fieldwork classes in this gorge are held to elementary school students and local junior high school students by tour guides and researcher since 1997.
However, local people in this area don’t have strong relationship to those geotours and geoeducations.
As a new initiative in this gorge since 2021, a new geotour is started by using sightseeing boat in collaboration with two local groups and one sightseeing company. About 140 people participanted in this new tour from Dec. 2021 to Jan. 2022.
In this presentation, I report about a new initiative and issues using sightseeing boat in Oboke and Koboke gorge.
