[G05-P20] Development and application of geoscience textbook for elementary school students; Mission of Sakurajima-Kinkowan Geopark

Purpose of this education programme
The Geopark programme has three main activity: 1. Conservation, 2. Education and 3. Geotourism. These three activity are often represented in a triangular diagram with a pyramid structure. In this triangle, 2. Education is located in the middle of 1. Conservation and 3. Geotourism. Education bridges 1. Conservation and 3. Geotourism. The presenter concern the following situations, when education is not functioning.
・ The Geoheritages are used in unintended ways.
・ The Geoheritages are used for unintended activities.
By learning about the history and current status of Geoheritages through geopark program, residence can understand the connection between humans and nature. It is our goal that people learn about appropriate conservation and use methods.
This approach is an unique way among many educational programs, excepting Geopark Programs. Sakurajima-Kinkowan Geopark has been producing a geoscience textbook for elementary school students since 2017, using geo-heritages in our territory (Katahira 2017; JGN Conference). Since the first edition was published, it has been distributed to 6th grade students in the Sakurajima-Kinkowan Geopark and used in their science classes.
In this presentation, the presenter would like to share the knowledge we have gained through this project, and our future prospects.
