Keywords:“Karuta”, cooking, Cyanobacteria, food culture

We propose cyanobacteria as a suitable early introductory food organism for manned space missions. Cyanobacteria has a wide range of possibilities for utilization in space. In this presentation, I will introduce an attempt to create a “Karuta” for cooking in a harsh environment such as space. We are focusing on cyanobacteria, assuming that ensuring nutrition and cooking of food happens in a harsh environment in space. “Karuta” is one of the age-old cultural tools of the Japanese. A new method of using Karuta was recently presented by Arai et al. It is one of the innovative tools that can closely integrate science and culture. Cooking includes a close relationship with culture, as the term "food culture" indicates. Therefore, I would like to show the process and results of the efforts to create a “Karuta”. It is expected to have a ripple effect in integrating science and culture.
