[HDS07-P05] How can we protect our homes, property, and life from the risk of a heavy rainfall disaster?

In recent years, heavy rainfall disasters have been occurring frequently around the world. For those in Japan, China, and Malaysia...
One of the reasons for such disasters is that the rainfall is the heaviest ever recorded in the region.
In such a case, not only floods but also landslides can occur, causing extensive damage.
In order to reduce the risk of heavy rainfall disasters, there are a number of researches on watershed management, green infrastructure, eco-DRR, sponge cities, and other proactive measures against heavy rainfall disasters.
On the other hand, the hazards that can be caused by heavy rainfall are varied. Particularly more challenging is an assessment of the risk of landslides and mudslides.
What is important to reduce such risks is "scientific knowledge" that is linked to nature and society.
In this talk, we will discuss the state-of-the-art technologies for countermeasures against heavy rainfall and the effectiveness of the Trans-disciplinary approach.
