[HSC06-P07] Development of CCS Cost Estimation Tool
Keywords:economic evaluation, business model, overall optimization, DBMS, WEB system, programming language
The economic efficiency of CCS includes incentives such as subsidies as a mechanism to reduce the burden on companies, in addition to the cost required for the entire lifetime of CCS. While considering the balance between the two, how attractive business models can be proposed for companies are considered to be the key to promoting CCS in the future. The problem with CCS cost calculation is that there are many conceivable cases. In other words, even if the emission source is fixed, the cost will change if the annual storage amount, capturing method, transportation distance, liquefaction method, press-filling period, etc. are changed. Incentives also change depending on what kind of case is assumed. This means that the optimization of a specific process in CCS does not necessarily lead to the optimization of the whole. To obtain the optimum solution, it is considered that the best solution is to compare and examine feasible multiple cases.
For the above reasons, the team is developing a tool that can calculate the cost incurred by CCS from various aspects in the economic evaluation of CCS. For that purpose, it is necessary to process a large number of cases efficiently, and in addition to the conventional calculation method, it is necessary to automatically execute multiple cases and perform sensitivity analysis while changing specific parameters within a specified range. These features will be built into the tool.
The tool to be developed has some features other than the above. They are described below.
1) Development in a programming language:
This provides a tool with excellent usability. In Excel tools, we often had trouble entering specifications in tables, but we will try to improve it by building an easy-to-understand user interface.
2) Equipped with DBMS (database management system):
The DBMS ensures safe and reliable management of study cases and data for each user. In addition, the data management part and the calculation engine can be separated.
3) Developed as a WEB system:
No special software or update operation is required, and the tool can be used with a browser. Moreover, since all the calculations are processed on the server, the tool is not affected by the performance of the user PC.
Regarding the development schedule, in FY2022, based on the new concept, we will make the best use of the information accumulated so far and build a prototype equipped with basic functions within the year. In FY2023, we plan to expand this with new functions such as automatic calculation, incorporate the latest information and knowledge, and complete it as a CCS cost calculation tool. In this presentation, we will introduce the design concept of the tools to be developed and the functions to be installed.
