[MGI30-P03] RDUF: Research Data Utilization Forum -- toward a Japanese Forum of Open Science and new Data Management/Sharing

Since the G8 Science Ministers Meeting in 2013, the new scholarly paradigm of open science and FAIR data sharing and management have become major international topics in a variety of settings, including national/institutional policy, academia, research institutions, and others. For example of a particular case, recent changes in some academic journal policies have made it a requirement for research paper authors to make the used datasets accessible in accordance with the FAIR data principles before proceeding to review process of their manuscripts.
In the international arena, activities such as Research Data Alliance (RDA), an international forum for research data sharing, interoperability, persistent identifiers, and reuse of research data, which has been discussed by the G8, OECD, AGU, and others, are becoming more active as a forum for de facto community consensus and international agreement. In response to the importance of this kind of community discussions for future growth of science and technology in Japan, RDUF (Research Data Utilization Forum) was established as an outgrowth of a group discussing the assignment of DOIs to data. The RDUF is free to join online, with voluntary-basis participation in forum discussions and summarizing reports (no obligations), and functions as a place for voluntary community activities. We hope that many people will be interested in joining it for the future of science in Japan and harmonization with foreseen changes of the global science.
