[MIS21-P05] Instability analysis considering finite depth of an axisymmetric flow in a cylindrical tank with a rotating bottom
Keywords:rotating flow, laboratory experiments, linear instability, shallow water system
We have been investigating the axisymmetric flows in this situation, and obtained analytical solutions which explain well the experimental results. We can use these axisymmetric flows as the basic state for the instabiliry analysis, which may explain the non-axisymmetirc phenomena. The instability analysis based on shallow water system, however, does not explain quantitatively well the experimental results. The discrepancies may be caused by the shallow water system analysis assuming horizontally long phenomena. We try instability analysis considering the finite depth of the flow instead of the simple shallow water system.
