[MZZ49-06] Relationship between human activities and the natural environment explored by remote sensing

Remote sensing, which can scan a wide area in a short time, is one of the indispensable means for investigating the relationship between human activity and the natural environment. Until now, the main means was to take pictures using large satellites operated by national organizations such as space agencies and manned aircraft, but in recent years, microsatellite weighing 50 kg or less and small drones powered by rechargeable batteries are becoming popular. With such devices, the method of environmental monitoring has reached a major turning point. Not only is the cost of a 50kg satellite less than 1/100 of that of a large satellite, but the development period is several years or less, which is 1/5 - 1/10 of the conventional space development, and the latest technology can be quickly applied. It is possible to capture and deploy many of them. The onboard camera has also become smaller, and it has become possible to take high-resolution images of the reflection spectrum, which is difficult even for large satellites. With the establishment of technique for target pointing, it has become practical to observe specific areas such as urban areas with high frequency, and to make three-dimensional observations of cumulonimbus clouds that cause high-risk torrential rainfall. In this presentation, we will discuss the possibility of observing air, ocean and river pollution and urban climate using such new remote sensing devices.
