[O08-P20] Survey of microplastics around the Izu Peninsula
Keywords:microplastics, Izu peninsula
These days, pollution of the ocean by micro plastic is a large environmental problem in the world. Although the number of research on microplastics is increasing around the world, the information on the Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka Prefecture is limited. We focused on the Kano river, which flows into Numazu port, and the Inozawa river, which flows into Shimoda port. Nirayama high school students searched for microplastics in the water, and Shimoda high school students searched for them in the sand. For the detection of microplastics, we used a method using the density of aqueous solution, observation of fluorescence by irradiation with blue light, and dyeing with Nile red or resin dyes. Then, we have been conducting research to find more practical conditions of experiment with high school equipment.
From these results, the more the household effluents run in to the river, the greater number of micro plastic has been found. Therefore, we recognized that the discharge of micro plastic is caused by human activity.
