[O08-P38] Azimuthal dependence of cosmic ray arrival frequency

Cosmic rays are high-energy radiation coming from outer space, flying from various directions.

In order to investigate whether cosmic rays are attenuated by mountains, we measured the arrival frequency of cosmic rays at different angles from the ground. Since the relationship between the frequency of cosmic rays and the direction from which the detector was pointed did not change, we hypothesized that the arrival frequency of cosmic rays may differ depending on the direction.

In this study, we investigated whether the arrival frequency of cosmic rays changes depending on the azimuthal angle from which they arrive. A small cosmic ray measuring instrument, CosmicWatch, was used for the study. A semiconductor converts the fluorescence of the scintillator into an electrical signal, which is recorded. Only cosmic rays passing through the two units, which were placed on top of each other to reduce noise, were used.

The detectors were pointed in eight directions and inclined from the ground to measure the frequency of arrival of cosmic rays at the same measurement time. The measurement time was 15 minutes. The recorded data were analyzed by Google Colaboratory. In this presentation, we will present the results of the measurements in eight azimuths and the frequency of cosmic ray arrivals in each azimuthal direction.
