[O08-P46] Cosmic ray measurements using water and snow for snow gauge production

*Mao Sato1 (1.Yamagata Prefectural Yamagata East Senior High School)

Keywords:cosmic-ray, snow gauge

In a measurement of gravity, snow affects the values and that has become a problem. It is known that the detected cosmic ray numbers change depending on snow height. Based on the fact, we have tried to use affordable cosmic ray detectors to accurately estimate the snow amount in a short time frame. The experiments with water took place before the experiments with snow.

In the case of water, the decrease in the count numbers of muon was detected with a water level increase while for cosmic ray neutrons, it was not measured. The decrease for muon with a snow level increase was also observed, although the errors were significant.

Additionally, as temperature influenced the results, in addition to measurements at other heights, we will investigate the relationship between the arrival frequency of cosmic rays and temperature in the next study.
