[O08-P48] Effect of air conditioner exhaust heat on air circulation in the school courtyard

Most of the current research on the urban heat island effect is conducted at the local urban area scale or by simulation, and few observations and experiments are conducted at the street scale of a few tens of meters. According to previous studies, it is known that air stagnates in the "urban canyons," which are valleys composed of buildings and streets in urban areas. Therefore, we considered the courtyard between the school buildings of Kakogawa Higashi High School as an urban canyon. Then, noting that the outdoor units of air conditioners are located in the courtyard, we investigated air circulation and temperature distribution in the courtyard. The results revealed that the air conditioners enhanced convection within the canopy layer.
