[O08-P64] Measurement of radon concentrations at Hirose River
Keywords:geological features
Radon is a rare-gas radioactive material. We often hear it in the topic of hot springs. It is produced when natural radioactive materials such as uranium and thorium undergo elemental modification while emitting alpha and beta rays to become stable lead. In this study, we used an inexpensive and compact radon detector that I made myself to compare radon readings in stones picked up at several riverside sites, and examined the causes of the differences. As a preliminary measurement, we checked to see if we could identify alpha decay nuclei from Monaz stones and performed energy calibrations.
