[PEM12-12] EISCAT_3D Status and Schedule

★Invited Papers

*Craig James Heinselman1 (1.EISCAT Scientific Association)

Keywords:Geospace, Ionosphere, Instrument

The EISCAT_3D system will be a major new research infrastructure for investigating, among other things, the coupling between the Earth's upper atmosphere, ionosphere, and magnetosphere in a key region of geospace. The radar, which will be located under the auroral region of northern Norway, Finland, and Sweden, will replace the legacy EISCAT systems which have operated since the early 1980's.

EISCAT_3D subsystems are now being manufactured and the sites have been largely prepared for installation over the coming months. Engineering tests have also been performed on individual subsystems as well as integration testing of most of the components in an antenna subarray.

This talk will discuss in greater detail the status of the EISCAT_3D implementation, the initial capabilities and expanded capabilities planned for the system, as well as the schedule for making the radar available to the research community.
