[PEM12-P20] Magnetosheath plasma jets and revision of magnetopause models
キーワード:solar wind – magnetosphere coupling, magnetopause, magnetosheath jets
The Earth’s magnetopause, the shape and size of which is determined by geomagnetic field configurations, and driven by external factors such as the solar wind and the interplanetary magnetic field, has in the recent times been known to be also affected by fast magnetosheath jets. These jets cause strong undulations of the magnetopause consisting of indentations which are surrounded by expansions. Taking into account the effect of these jets, we present a revised model of the magnetopause, in accordance with the latest experimental data on magnetopause crossings. This revised model will make a more precise determination of the magnetopause shape and location possible.
