[PPS07-P08] Estimation of Venus' atmospheric circulation using a newly developed material circulation model

The Venus' atmosphere has thick clouds of sulfuric acid droplets at an altitude of 45-65 km, so the atmospheric flow below the cloud tops cannot be observed from the outside. We do not know how heat and momentum are transported in the Venus' atmosphere, and this is a major problem in understanding the dynamics of the Venus' atmosphere. However, the discovery of near-infrared window enables us to observe the deep atmosphere of Venus, which had been hidden by clouds. Since distribution of chemically active species are affected by chemical reactions, phase changes, and transport by winds, we would be able to estimate the atmospheric circulation from the observed distribution. In this study, we developed a Venus' material circulation model that incorporates transport by atmospheric motion, droplet sedimentation, chemical reactions, and cloud microphysics. The meridional circulation of Venus are evaluated by using observed meridional distribution of CO, H2O, and H2SO4.
