GGOS (Global Geodetic Obeserving System) launched GGOS Working Group on DOIs (WG on DOIs) in 2019 to broadly discuss the methods and formats of publication of observation data in many geodesy and space geodesy fields. In the same year, GGOS Japan set up the Data DOI WG to discuss how to publish geodetic data in Japan. These observation data have been collected and supported by many institutions (in many countries), and their purposes in a narrow sense are different, and budgetary constraints and research and development constraints are also different. The, many observation institutes have applied original rules to the open data and data formats.
To share the concept and format of open data in the field of geodesy, It was pointed out that a support for beginners and researchers in different fields and a clarification of responsibility for each observation system and data are important. It has come to be considered that clearer rules and support information should be defined.
This presentation describes the attempt and the progress of the open data in the geodesy field in Japan. Several meetings in the GGOS Japan Data DOI WG have been held, and since last year, the Geodetic Society of Japan has set up a working group to build a new open data system.
Currently, discussions are underway on the construction of an open data system using the collection system of the National Diet Library called WARP and the J-Stage Data system. In the field of geodesy, where the involvement of government agencies is large, virtual data storage provided by the WARP system for the purpose of collecting data and codes of public institutions reduces the burden on each institution. We also believe that the J-Stage Data system can be used to store data collected by small groups.
In addition to these, discussions are underway on the assignment of DOIs, and the construction and implementation of an open data system that can be realized is underway.
