[SSS03-07] Development of broadband ocean bottom seismology in Japan – A review
★Invited Papers
キーワード:広帯域海底地震計
A dense broadband seismic network in oceanic regions has been considered as essential for major breakthroughs in Earth sciences, since many phenomena caused by plate tectonics and mantle dynamics studies (e.g., subduction zones, spreading ridges, and hot spots) take place in oceanic regions. The development of broadband ocean-bottom seismometers (BBOBSs) was initiated in the late 1980s. Observations with BBOBSs were implemented in the late 1990s and become a common practice at present. Numerous scientific studies have been conducted and significant data were collected, despite the limited coverage of the observations owing to the vastness of oceanic regions. In this presentation, we review the development of BBOBS instrumentation and scientific achievements in Japan, then discuss future direction of broadband ocean bottom seismology.
