[U01-06] Great debate for Contribution to SDGs by Geoscience

*Hodaka Kawahata1 (1.Atmosphere Ocean Research Institute, the University of Tokyo)

The United Nations Agenda 2030 which contains the Global Goals for Sustainable Development (17 Goals, 169 targets, 230 indicator) was adopted by many countries around the world in 2015. Geosciences as a basic science is important in the sense that it provides the knowledge of humankind that supports the foundation of SDGs in order to attain sustainable development and to improve the quality of life for people all over the world. The necessity of greater advancements in solution science is now also required to help to achieve the SDGs. Therefore we have to make another effort to consider social justice and public communication to reduce societal impacts and risks with better strategies of stakeholder engagements.
We would like to discuss how the world's leading unions on Earth and Planetary Sciences contribute to the SDGs by cooperation and collaboration among world-leading unions in the session of Great Debate at JpGU2022. At the 2023 JPGU meeting, this discussion will be hopefully developed to have a joint session by JpGU, AGU, EGU, AOGS and CGU in order to work cooperatively to set specific goals and act.
