[U03-02] Promoting and supporting gender fairness at the European Research Council (ERC)
Keywords:Gender, Equality, Funding
The view of the European Research Council (ERC), Europe’s first funding agency for frontier research, is that women and men are equally able to perform excellent frontier research, and also to guide it. Since its creation in 2007, the ERC has developed and implemented its Gender Equality Plan, endorsed by the ERC Scientific Council, thereby introducing a variety of measures to ensure equal treatment of all candidates. Throughout its more than ten years of existence, the ERC has monitored gender data as regards to both applicants and grantees. Recently, the ERC extended the data collection exercise to gender diversity in ERC review panels, on researchers declining an invitation to serve in review panels, and on remote referees.
Gender data collected from ERC’s internationally recognised funding schemes are presented, with particular focus on geosciences.
