Keywords:oversea study, UC Berkeley, diversity

Using the JSPS Kakenhi, I stayed mainly at UC Berkeley with my families for about 11 months from January 2021, performing collaborate studies in seismology. Pu our trip had been originally scheduled from April 2020 to January 2021, but we had to postpone our stay after August 2020 by request from the university. Based on the advice from my friends and supervisors of the university, our trip started from January 2021 to November 2021. Taking into account of the spread of the novel coronavirus in United states, we decided to abandon several short business trips in the United States and Canada, focusing only on stays in California and visits to several universities there. I could performe research activities including in-person and online discussion, obtaining a new study colleagues. During our stay in UC Berkeley, I could also publish one paper in an international journal (Nature Communications) because I could easily discuss results of my analysis in detail with my co-authors and could absorb advanced knowledge immediately because of in-person discussions and online discussions in the same time zone.
In this session, in addition to the above contents, I am planing to report on my research and daily life during the covid-19 sitation in order to contribute to maximization of overseas research opportunities of participants in the session.
