[M-AG34] Radioisotope migration: New development for radioisotope migration study related to 1F NPP accident

Wed. May 24, 2023 9:00 AM - 10:15 AM 202 (International Conference Hall, Makuhari Messe)

convener:Daisuke Tsumune(Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry), Yoshio Takahashi(Department of Earth and Planetary Science, Graduate School of Science, The University of Tokyo), Akira Kirishima(Tohoku University), Hiroaki Kato(Center for Research in Isotopes and Environmental Dynamics, University of Tsukuba), Chairperson:Daisuke Tsumune(Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry), Akira Kirishima(Tohoku University)

12 years have passed since the accident at the Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (1F NPP), which was triggered by the Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami. The environmental dynamics process of radionuclides released by the 1F NPP has been revealed, but there are still many issues to be solved, such as the migration process across sphere. It is important to understand the chemical element processes in the migration process across the sphere for new development on the environmental dynamics study of the 1F NPP accident. Furthermore, in addition to radioactive cesium, which has been the main target, it is necessary to combine the understanding of the dynamics of rare long-lived nuclides and natural radioactive nuclides, and to organize them as permanently available radioisotope tracers. In addition, it is desirable to expand the sphere and the time scale from smaller to larger scale by collaborating with research on radionuclides migration on-site and geological disposal of radioactive waste.
In this session, we would like to summarize our research activities to date and deepen the discussion on cross-disciplinary research issues for new developments in the study of environmental dynamics of the Fukushima nuclear accident.
