We invite the ordinary citizen, especially secondary school students and university students, to join us in discussing the future of disaster education at schools.
Japan is a country with many disasters, where natural disasters such as earthquakes, volcanoes, and typhoons occur. In order to reduce the damage caused by natural disasters in the future, it is important to learn about disaster prevention and mitigation. For this purpose, it is important to educate students about disaster prevention and disaster mitigation at school.
The content taught in schools today is new from the 2020 school year (elementary school), the 2021 school year (junior high school), and the 2022 school year (high school). Among them, the content of learning about disaster prevention and disaster mitigation has increased. However, there are still some points that need to be improved. In this session, we, researchers (and school teachers), would like to think together about how disaster education in schools should be conducted. First, the contents of current textbooks on disaster education will be introduced as a basis for discussion. We would also like to discuss and consider with you the ideal form of disaster education in schools. In particular, we encourage secondary school students and university students to actively participate in the discussions from the standpoint of learning about disaster prevention and disaster mitigation.
