[AAS03-08] Developing a weather forecast system over Osaka city of Japan using the WRF model at 300 m horizontal grid resolution
キーワード:Extreme Events, Forecast Weather System, WRF
In this study, a weather forecasting system over Osaka city is developed by using the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) Model at 300 m grid resolution. To do this, we customized and tuned the WRF model with various physics including parameters and configuration setups at different resolutions starting from 100 to 500 m horizontal resolution. A doppler lidar has been deployed at the center of the model domain location to nudge the WRF model with the vertical profile of the wind speed and direction. The accuracy of the model is verified against the AMeDAS station observations around Osaka city for surface temperature, rainfall and wind speed. We find that doppler lidar based observation nudging improved the wind and temperature profile to a greater extent. We also investigated the daily extremes and noticed they are represented well in the simulations. Our overall results indicated high accuracy in the model simulated major weather variables and good correlations between the model and observation.
