キーワード:Groundwater quality, Monitoring, Citizen Science, Meerut
Citizen science is defined as collaboration between citizens and professional researchers to investigate an issue of importance to the local community. In this research , a citizen science network has been developed to assess the groundwater quality of Meerut district. Deterioration of drinking water quality in the district resulted in frequent outbreaks of water- related diseases. Water colour and clarity are easily measurable and can be used to define purity of water. We developed spatial and temporal maps of groundwater quality by using continuous monitoring data through local public. The Citizen Scientist Network was created by college students, universities laboratory, research centre and local house owner situated in the district.
The results of the study help in the identification of groundwater pollutions vulnerable zones in the district. This study showed the potential of a community group to help fill geospatial data gaps in groundwater quality monitoring and reassess water quality protection in the study region.
