[AOS11-P02] Grid-wise approach to statistical marine heatwave characteristics
キーワード:Marine heatwaves, grid-wise approach
Previous studies had reported marine heatwaves (MHWs) around the Maritime Continent during 1998 and 2016, which occurred majorly in South Java Seas. Even though the number of MHW research is increasing, the records of MHW studies in the Maritime Continent remained very limited and poorly explored whereas Maritime Continent is located at the main coral triangle areas. We used OI-SST (Optimum Interpolation Sea Surface Temperature) 2.1 equipped with 0.250 x 0.250 latitude and longitude of the high-resolution grid and calculated its occurrences from 1981 to 2021 for about 40 years. It has 14732 shots of time, and 112 x 204 degrees of latitude and longitude. We use this information to utilize the data grid density and to measure MHW characters e.g intensity and duration. We will present the probable high-intensity thoroughly for 40 years meanwhile the duration is progressively lengthened at the end of recent decades. We named this approach as a grid-wise approach to MHW characterisation. Furthermore, the result shows that the MHW event frequency is about 2 events per year, single-centered of Maximum MHW, and a double peak of Mean MHW. In short, this study provides the data density utilization to show statistics of MHW duration and intensity.
