Among these, the first problem is where to procure the materials for constructing the pool. Materials that can be obtained locally to build the core biome will be procured in local site, and those that cannot be obtained were required to be transported from Earth, other planets, or satellites. Next, it is necessary to build hardware such as pools and atmospheric shrouds of the core biome. Finally, the selected organisms must be transported from Earth to their destination star and released in a man-made prepared ocean environment with maintenance of their good health.
It is thought that the technology established assuming aquaculture in space can be applied to this interstellar transportation. Assuming actual interstellar transportation, it takes 3 days from the Earth to the Moon, and 200 days at the shortest to Mars. During this time, it is necessary to transport the aquatic life while maintaining it. Most aquatic organisms can survive at all stages from egg to adult within 3 days, transportation with the form of fertilized eggs is considered preferable, because fertilized eggs are lighter in weight from the viewpoint of transportation and do not require feeding. However, although cryopreservation of sperm is possible for fish and crustaceans, the preservation technology of egg has not been established because eggs are relatively large. For this reason, in long-term transportation, it is necessary to feed and transport fish while maintaining water quality. In this case, recirculating aquaculture systems and material recycling are effective, and the waste discharged from fish and shellfish farming is used as fertilizer for plant cultivation, it is also possible to produce food such as vegetables for human.
In this presentation, assuming the interstellar transportation of aquatic organisms aiming at the creation of space oceans, the technologies that can be used in space aquaculture and their problems will be organized.
