[E-11-11] JpGU Super Lesson: BGC Argo float data and how to use the data

*Fujiki Tetsuichi1, Makio Honda1, Kanako Sato1 (1. JAMSTEC)

Argo is one of major global ocean observing systems that is measured and monitored by >3000 Argo floats in cooperation with lots of countries around the world. In recent years, BGC Argo, which equipped with various biological and chemical sensors on Argo floats, has begun to be deployed in the global ocean. In particular, the six variables of dissolved oxygen, chlorophyll, nitrate, backscatter, pH and irradiance have been identified as basic parameters in the BGC Argo mission, and the number of scientific results based on the output data of these sensors are rapidly increased by many researchers and technicians in many countries. The BGC Argo is strongly expected to play an important role in research and monitoring of changes in the ocean environments, e.g., ocean acidification, carbon dioxide absorption and marine ecosystems. This lesson gives the basic explanation of BGC Argo, as well as the basics of how to find, obtain, read out and use its data, including actual research results.
