[G03-01] Practice of using NDL tool in university lectures on the history of
earth and planetary science

Opportunities to use archived data in practical training and seminars at universities are increasing, and it is essential for lectures to incorporate and select information. Even in the field of earth and planetary science, archive data are acquired and analyzed in situations where observation is difficult. Similar movements are also taking place in the field of humanities and social sciences, and opportunities for educational use are increasing due to the development of digital archives, additional measures to release materials, and the release of simple analysis tools over the past few years. The NDL Lab of the National Diet Library (NDL) scans mainly those whose copyrights have expired among the materials held by NDL, and has started publishing them sequentially through OCR. "NDL Ngram Viewer" that visualizes and enumerates the appearance frequency by publication year and "NDL Next Generation Library" that provides full-text search function and full-text download function will be released one by one. It has become much easier to grasp the content to some extent using other materials. In an on-demand university lecture on the history of natural science, the presenter asked the students to actually use the tool provided above, and searched for the first appearance of natural science terms to translate scientific terms in Japan. We carried out the task of confirming and considering the establishment of By treating lecture-style information that tends to be one-sided, such as references to other assignments and term papers afterward, we encourage students to take the initiative in responding by treating them as assignments. In particular, it is speculated that the use of texts leads to an understanding of the material being read, and is more effective in maintaining interest afterward.
