[G03-P07] Geological education with a learning picture book for children and possibility of using it in class (as an example of the new edition of Shogakukan's picture book NEO "Rocks, Minerals, and Fossils")
Keywords:picture book, geological education, rocks, minerals, fossils
Shogakukan's picture book NEO "Rocks, Minerals, Fossils" was first published in June 2012, and a new edition with a DVD was released in June 2022. Although the original target is upper grade elementary school students, it has gained a wide range of readers from infants to adults, and sales have increased rapidly since around 2020, probably due to the demand for stay-at-home due to the corona crisis, and the first edition has a cumulative total of 265,000 copies, and 180,000 copies in the new edition. It shows that there was latent demand for geoscience picture books at a speed that surpassed the company's biology and space picture books. Since the author has been involved in the production of this encyclopedia from the time it was first planned, I will introduce the items and contents to be covered, and explain how this kind of picture book on rocks, minerals, and fossils will respond to the needs of the times. I would like to introduce how it has changed. In addition, I would like to consider the possibility of using books in the form of picture books/educational encyclopedias for children, which is rare in other countries, including their use in school education.
