[HCG23-07] The effects of climate change on the harvest and quality of rice (paddy rice) and possible adapttion measures in Japan

*Reiichiro Ishii1, Kotaro Ueno1 (1.Research Institute for Humanity and Nature)

Keywords:quality and quantity of rice , adaptation to climate change

The effects of climate change on the harvest and quality of rice (paddy rice) in a region in Japan were evaluated based on an analysis of statistical data for 32 years from 1989 to 2020 and the following were found 1) The effect of temperature on rice quality was confirmed by analysis over the nation wide area. 2)There were differences in the effects of temperature on the timing of the impact of climate change, depending on the region, the stage of rice growth, and the type of agricultural work, suggesting that differences in adaptation to the timing of rice planting and harvesting, as determined by farmers, may have an impact on quality and other factors. Based on these findings, we will discuss the characteristics of the effects of climate change on in agriculture and possible adapttion measures.
