This study evaluated the effluent quality of a decentralized system for blackwater treatment installed in a rural area of Yamanashi, Japan. A decrease in the number of residents leads to derease of blackwater loading and effluent water quality improvement, resulting that BOD concentration of effluent at all the monitoring stations were below the national standard (90 mg/L)
