Keywords:Rare earth elements, Carbonaceous, Sericite, pyrophyllite, clays, Nishigoya deposit

The Nishigoya deposit located at northwest of Ibaraki Prefecture consists of sericitic pyrophyllite ores formed by hydrothermal alteration of the Neogene volcanic rocks. In this study, we found that rare earth elements (REE) are partially enriched in carbonaceous clays in veins and lenses. Since carbonaceous matters are depleted in REE, they were selectively concentrated during hydrothemal alteration. We disucuss the occurence of REE minerals and fractionation of REE during the hydrothemal alteration.
