Keywords:Ground Penetrating Radar, sedimentary facies analysis

Sedimentary facies analysis is a sedimentological technique that models sedimentary features (facies model) based on sedimentary structures found in sediments (past and present, flume experiment) to estimate depositional environments and hydraulic conditions. Outcrop observation is the basic method for past and present sediments, but GPR is effective for the analysis of cross-sections of sediments that are not exposed on the ground surface. The GPR exploration of flume experimental sediments has the advantage of obtaining non-destructive 3-D cross-sections. This report describes the application of GPR to sedimentary facies analysis based on the results of three explorations: alluvial river sand and gravel deposits, a model experiment, and a fossil excavation.
