[MAG32-04] I30JP operation and maintenance under the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020-2022
Keywords:CTBT, National Data Centre, infrasound, typhoon
Japan NDC-1 conducts operation and maintenance of I30JP, which locates Isumi-city, Chiba prefecture, as a Post Certification Activities (PCA) since 2005. Because more than 15 years have passed after certification and observatory is aging, we have conducted "Comprehensive Repairment of I30JP" as the unscheduled maintenance (USM) during the COVID-19 pandemic. Although the procurement of repair supplies has been delayed due to the global lockdown and disruption of the logistics network, we could successfully complete the comprehensive repair for 3 years.
In addition, I30H4 vault was flooded and some equipment inside were submerged due to heavy rain caused by the typhoon “Mirinae” in August 2021. Before the typhoon damage, DA (Data Availability) of I30H1 to H6 was almost 100%, however, I30H4 data transmission has stopped from 19 August 2021. We are now taking remedial actions at I30H4.
Although the COVID-19 pandemic caused SO’s movement restrictions and supply delays, by communicating closely with local operators and IMS, and data monitoring through remote work, we could conduct O&M activities same as before the pandemic.
