San'in Kaigan Geopark holds a children's research work contest for elementary school students in the area to deepen their understanding of and attachment to the region by studying the topography, geology, history, culture, and other aspects of the area and its relationship to their own community and daily lives. The contest began in 2014, and a total of 579 entries were received over the nine years through 2022. The entries are shown to the public in a traveling exhibition that tours Hyogo, Tottori, and Kyoto prefectures in turn. The traveling exhibition is filled with the various attractions of Geoparks as seen through the eyes of elementary school students, and contributes to the spread of Geopark awareness among citizens.
In this presentation, we will introduce the nine-year history of the contest and outline our efforts in fiscal 2022. In addition, based on data from the titles of research works submitted to date, we will introduce what elementary school students in the San'in Kaigan Geopark area have been interested in and concerned about in the Geopark.
