Mt. Kurikoma Area Geopark Visitor Center, which opened in 2019, has so far had no effective operation plan, and some of its activities lack planning and consistency. In addition, because a comprehensive information provision system has not been established, it is difficult to say that necessary and sufficient information is adequately provided to visitors.
To solve these problems, we decided to develop a plan to implement a comprehensive interpretive program for base facilities, referring to the U.S. national park system. Comprehensive interpretive plans, which organize all matters related to park operations, are widespread in U.S. national parks, and in 2000, a notice was issued requiring all national parks to formulate such plans. In recent years, some Japanese natural parks and facilities have also developed plans based on this system.
Interpretation plays an important role in achieving the objectives of Geoparks. This presentation will provide an overview of the above plan and a perspective on future implementation based on the plan.
