[MZZ43-P14] Seaside Garden Revitalization Project" to decorate the coastline of a volcanic island.
Keywords:Geopark, Volcanic island
Located on the eastern margin of the Philippine Sea Plate, Izu Oshima Geopark is an active volcanic island that has erupted once every 100 to 200 years, and more than 80 traces of lateral eruptions have been found on the island. Lava flows from the lateral eruptions have reclaimed the foot of the island and created rich gentle slopes along the coastline. In these areas, a variety of coastal plants that are unique to the island can be seen, which can withstand strong sea breezes and sunlight, and bloom brilliantly from season to season. In recent years, however, the number of these plants has been decreasing, according to the voices of the island's elders, and this project was launched.
The Ministry of the Environment, geo-guides, and the private sector are working together to revive the coastal plant garden as a symbol of Izu Oshima's rich natural environment, to draw more people's attention to the beauty and preciousness of Oshima's natural environment, to foster awareness of the need to preserve local resources, and to make the volcanic island a place where people can enjoy the charm of its unique coastline. The project is being conducted in cooperation with the Ministry of the Environment, geo-guides, and high schools, elementary schools, and private companies on the island. We will present the results of these activities and surveys.
