Keywords:Hayabusa2 Extended Mission, Planetary Defense

In general, planetary defense means "protecting the Earth from celestial objects colliding with it from outer space.” However, not only activities to directly protect the Earth, but also, for example, activities such as preliminary investigation of the identity of celestial bodies with high collision probability are also considered part of planetary defense activities in a broad sense. From this perspective, the missions of Japan's representative asteroid explorers, Hayabusa2 is in fact inseparable from planetary defense. This paper presents an overview of Hayabusa2's extended mission and its relationship with Planetary Defense.
