Interest in environmental issues caused by microplastic particles has been increasing worldwide. Many high school students in Japan have started researching this topic. As a result of collaborative research with surrounding high schools in the third year of our study to clarify the distribution of plastic debris throughout the entire Izu Peninsula, we report here the findings of our investigation of three rivers; Inouzawa River, Kawazu River, and Shirada River. Our investigation suggests that numerous landfills containing microplastic debris are located separately from densely populated areas.
