[O06-P17] Cluster analysis for usage frequency of Izu dialect.

Dialects exist in various regions in Japan. As residents of the Izu Peninsula, we conducted a survey on the recognition of 32 words among 976 residents of 2 cities and 5 towns (Shimoda City, Ito City, Higashi Izu Town, Kawazu Town, Minami Izu Town, Matsuzaki Town, and Nishi Izu Town) in Shizuoka Prefecture, using the Euclidean distance to define proximity and performing hierarchical cluster analysis. The results revealed that the recognition patterns of dialects were most similar between Shimoda City and Minami Izu Town, while Ito City was distinct. It was also found that the western coast of the Izu Peninsula had a different cluster from the eastern coast. In this report, we further discuss the findings based on geographical features such as Jyako Pass and Basara Pass, as well as industrial and administrative history.
