[O06-P36] Protecting Toyooka's Bird, the Stork: A Better Nest Tower Location for the Stork
Keywords:Toyooka, oriental white stork, finger-shaped landforms
The oriental white stork is the official bird of Toyooka City. It is a beautiful bird, spreading its huge wings and soaring in the sky, but in fact, it was once extinct in the wild in Japan. Although attempts have been made to breed them in captivity and breeding has been successful, they are still listed as an endangered species. In order to further increase their numbers, we studied the locations of stork nest towers, which are still not known in detail, based on the environment surrounding the towers. We identified nest towers throughout Japan that are successfully breeding as of 2022, and examined the presence or absence of finger-shaped landforms and the distance from feeding grounds to determine optimal conditions.
