[O06-P50] The development of educational and experimental asperity model in the field of high school earth science

Introduction:
The fixed area called “asperity” exists in the plate boundary,which is one of the cause of happening great earthquake.I think that it may be applied to disaster prevention and mitigation to investigate the relationship between the distribution of the asperity and the accumulation of the strain.
Only the image of the asperity is taught in the field of high school geoscience,and its type and nature isn’t.I tried to develop the experimental teaching models which induce the high school students’ understanding of the asperity in this study.
Purpose:
The purpose of this study is to develop the experimental teaching materials which use things in the home center or around us,can be made easily and at low cost,and prompt the comprehension of the asperity.Moreover,I also tried to reproduce the differences in 4 types about its distribution:Alaska type,Aleutian type,Kuril type,and Mariana type.
Method:
First,create the maquette of the plate boundary between the continental plate and the ocean plate,using the plastic cardboards.I used edible dried noodles to reproduce the asperity’s adhesion.
Applying the strain using the weight to this model, assuming that the occurrence of the earthquake is breaking noodles,and I investigated the amount of the weight,the number of the earthquakes,and its condition.
Result:
I implemented experiments about 4 types of asperities,and I think that I could reproduce the changes of earthquakes depending on the type of asperity because each 4 types’ amount of the strain and their state of earthquakes did different behavior.I want to think about the difference between the asperity’s distribution and accumulation of the strain
